When to use Convert Images
Use these when the pixels are fine but the container is wrong: an AVIF your image editor refuses to open, a PNG screenshot that should have been a WebP, a logo that needs to become a raster file before it goes into a document. Every converter here genuinely decodes and re-encodes the image — renaming a file extension does not change its format, and produces a file that most software will reject.
Choosing between these tools
Pick a named converter when you know both ends
JPG to WebP, PNG to JPG, WebP to PNG and the rest open with the correct input filter and the right output already selected, so the page is a one-step job rather than a settings exercise.
Use the general Image Converter for mixed batches
It accepts several input formats at once, adds filename rules (prefix, suffix or a numbered sequence) and packs the results into a single ZIP — useful when you are converting a folder rather than a file.
Watch the transparency direction
Converting to JPG flattens transparency, so those tools give you a background color picker. Converting to PNG or WebP keeps the alpha channel, so no such control appears.
What to watch out for
- JPEG has no transparency. Transparent pixels are filled with the background color you choose — white by default, never a surprise black.
- Animated GIFs convert as their first frame only. PNG and JPG cannot hold an animation, so nothing is silently discarded without the page saying so.
- AVIF output only appears when your browser can actually encode AVIF; the option is hidden rather than offered and then failed.
- SVG is a vector format, so rasterizing it to PNG fixes it at one resolution. Choose the size you need before converting, not after.
Typical jobs
- Turning a batch of PNG screenshots into WebP for a documentation site.
- Converting an AVIF download into JPG so an older photo app can open it.
- Rendering an SVG logo to a transparent PNG at exactly 512 pixels wide.
