- Balanced (quality 80) is a sensible default for most photos.
- If a file barely shrinks, try converting it to WebP instead.
- Use the target-size option when you need to stay under an upload limit.

Quality & file size
Lossy formats (JPEG, WebP, AVIF) trade detail for smaller files as you lower the quality; PNG stays lossless regardless of the slider. The tool always shows the original and result sizes so you can judge the trade-off, and it never recommends a result that is larger than your original as an “optimization”.
Privacy
Every image is decoded, transformed and re-encoded entirely in your browser using the Canvas API and a Web Worker. Files are never uploaded, are not stored in localStorage, and are cleared from memory when you remove them or close the page.

Common issues & limitations
- Already-optimized images may not get smaller; the tool tells you when that happens.
- PNG is lossless, so quality has no effect on PNG output — use color reduction or WebP instead.
- All processing happens on your device, so the limits protect your own browser rather than a server: 25 MB per file, 20 files per batch, and 40 megapixels per image.
Frequently asked questions
How much can I compress an image?
It depends entirely on the image, which is why the tool shows you the real before and after sizes rather than a promise. A photograph straight from a camera usually has a lot to give; one that has already been compressed once has very little. Flat graphics often do far better as PNG or WebP than as a compressed JPEG.
What happens if the result is larger than the original?
The tool tells you and keeps the original selected, because already-optimized files can grow when re-encoded. You can try a different format instead.
Can I compress to a target file size?
Yes. Enter a target in KB or MB and the compressor searches quality (and, if needed, resolution) to get close to it, then reports whether it succeeded.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Every image is decoded, processed and encoded entirely inside your browser using the Canvas API. The files never leave your device and are discarded when you close the page.
